Today is St. Lucia Day, which is a big tradition in Norway and Sweeden. The 13. December used to be the longest night of the year according to the Gregorian calendar, so when the christians introduced this celebration of light to us, it fitted right into our culture. We celebrate the Saint Lucia who was supposed to be one of the first christian martyrs. Today my little girl walked in a procession carrying lights and singing candles in front of the parents.
Saint Lucia song:
The night treads heavilyaround yards and dwellings
In places unreached by sun,
the shadows brood
Into our dark house she comes,
bearing lighted candles,
Saint Lucia, Saint Lucia.
