In Norway we celebrate Christmas on the 24. December, so the 23. is the day before Christmas for us. We call it the little Christmas Eve.
The day is usually spent doing the last finishing touches, like setting the table for the next day, and making sure it is clean and tidy. When I was young, this was the day our parents brought the tree in and decorated it. That tradition seems to have died out...probably because we want to enjoy the tree for a longer period and also, it made the day rather stressful. I cannot tell you how many times they discovered the lights for the tree did not work after the stores were shut. Now-a-days the day is much more relaxed, and I like to have everything done in advance.
In the evening the kids get their surprise box and we all chill in our pyjamas. We also hang our stockings for Santa to fill. Usually we eat Mexican food like nachos or fajitas, since we need a break from all the traditional Norwegian food. Then we watch Christmas movies and eat candy. I think this is probably my favorite night of Christmas, when the presents are still unopened and we feel the excitement of what is yet to come.
