5 things to do before Christmas - in October

1 October 2018

1. Put activities on the calendar

Keep a calendar for the whole family somewhere handy, where you will start scheduling in events as you are invited.

2. Plan an advent calendar

As I might have mentioned, we have an activity calendar each year. Each day we do something together. I wrap something related to that activity in a small gift that they open each day. So, if we are baking, it might be a cookie cutter. This demands a bit of planning, because you need to plan small activities on the days you will be busy. If you start the list now, and just let it simmer for a while, ideas for new activities might pop up. If you are doing a gift calendar, you could start collecting little things when you see them in the shop. It is hard to find 24 gifts in one go, I will tell you.

3. Prepare for gift wrapping

Choose 3 different styles of wrapping paper and ribbons max. It also saves you from buying to much ribbon and having closets full of different color wrapping paper.
I also make my own gift labels. There are loads of free printable gift labels online.

4. Christmas cards

Determine how many cards you need and make a list of who you are sending them to. If you are using a photo for you card, now is the time to sort that out too. Whether you are buying them, or making them, it is a good idea to start early.

5. Take stock of your decorations

Check if there is anything that needs replacing. Are the lights working? Is anything broken?
